Stephen Lawrence Research Centre
Stephen Lawrence Research Centre Overview
Inspired by the loan of archival materials by ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ Chancellor, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, which document the history of the Lawrence family’s fight for justice in the wake of their son’s tragic murder, the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre (SLRC) at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ opened in May 2019. Its mission is to build an inclusive, intergenerational research community which engages with local communities and the wider public while attracting and fostering innovative thinkers who will develop world-leading and impactful interdisciplinary research across a number of thematic areas concerned with equality, social justice and diversity in contemporary society.
The Stephen Lawrence Archive, held in ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ Library’s Special Collections, presents one opportunity for unique research. Over time, the archive will form the core of larger collections of material relating to the Lawrence case and the histories of black and minority ethnic communities in Leicester.
The Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ welcomes PhD supervision enquiries and invites applications to the Midlands 4 Cities Doctoral Training Partnership across all the above areas, including collaborations with other ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ Institutes and Centres. In the first instance, please contact:
