Local business owners from Market Harborough gained valuable knowledge into ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ Leicester’s (ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ) extensive business support offerings during a special event hosted by the university’s Research, Business, and Innovation team.
Members and guests of the Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce visited ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ’s Leicester city centre campus to explore how the university drives business growth locally, regionally, and nationally. The event showcased opportunities for businesses to collaborate with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ experts, access funding for innovation projects, and leverage specialist knowledge across a range of sectors.
As part of the visit, attendees toured ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ’s sector-leading facilities in the Vijay Patel Building, home to the university’s renowned art and design courses, including its world-famous Contour Fashion programme, which has been running for over 75 years. They also received an exclusive preview of the multi-million-pound Creative Technology Studios, featuring industry-standard video, audio, and radio production suites, as well as two fully equipped recording studios.
The event was organised in partnership with the Market Harborough Chamber of Commerce, which works to create a thriving business community, support local enterprises, and influence council policies on behalf of its members.
Gareth Thomas, President of the Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Managing Director at Skills and Employment Support Limited, said:
"On behalf of the members of Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce, I would like to say thank you to the members of staff at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ who made us all very welcome. It was great to learn more about the different type of partnership opportunities, and also to see some of the different technology and state of the art facilities available to both students and potentially businesses. It was also great to see some of the students developing the skills that will be needed by businesses over the coming years. "
Representatives from the university’s Careers team and Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) team were also present to discuss ways businesses can collaborate with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ. The Careers Team highlighted opportunities for businesses to recruit student interns and graduates, while the KTP team explained how companies can partner with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ academics to drive innovation through government-backed schemes.
Nick Darlow, Vehicle Consultant at Nick Darlow Vehicle Consultancy, said: “I really enjoyed it, and I believe all the Chamber members and guests did too. The tour was also very interesting. It’s been a pleasure working with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ, and I hope that moving forward, the Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce can provide the much-needed platform for ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ to build stronger working relationships with businesses, both large and small, across the Harborough District- something that is desperately needed!"
Stuart Hilton, Head of Commercial Partnerships at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome a diverse group of businesses to our Leicester campus yesterday. The event was a great opportunity to showcase how ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ supports businesses at every stage of their journey. We’re looking forward to building lasting partnerships with businesses in Market Harborough and beyond.”
