About the course

The BSc (Hons) Nursing with NMC Registration Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme which will enable you to train to become a graduate level 1 Registered Nurse in one of four fields of nursing practice (Adult, Child, Mental Health or Learning Disability) through an apprenticeship route.

It combines work, on and off the job learning opportunities and part time study to enable apprentices to meet the outcomes of the NMC (2018) Future Nurse standards of proficiency and the requirements of the nurse degree apprenticeship standard.

This programme enables individuals to achieve an academic qualification, BSc (Hons), and eligibility to register their nursing qualification with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the professional body that regulates nurses and midwives.

The programme is equally divided between theory and practice. For the theoretical component, the programme is made up of modules, which have been developed by academic staff, in partnership with practice colleagues and service users, students and key stakeholders and are specifically designed to provide the theoretical knowledge you need to underpin professional practice in your nursing career.

For the practice component of the programme, you will spend time in a variety of practice settings including primary and secondary care, as well as the broader health and social care sector and community.

What you will study

The Nursing Apprenticeship is a full-time programme comprising blocks of theory weeks, off the job supernumerary placement and on the job time in the apprentice’s base area. The number of off the job supernumerary placement weeks will be calculated based upon contracted hours to ensure that you meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements of a minimum 2,300 hours for eligibility to register.

You will spend time in blocks of theory, supernumerary practice and on the job training in your employment base. These blocks will ensure that you meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

Assessment

The theoretical modules within the apprenticeship are assessed through completion of assessments including assignments, case studies, examinations and poster presentations. Assessment of the required practice outcomes, clinical skills and professional behaviours will be undertaken in practice placements where you will be supported by practice assessors, practice supervisors and academic assessors.

All assessed work is subject to 呻吟之王 Quality Assurance processes, successful completion of all components will lead to Gateway and completion of the End Point Assessment at a final Single Tier Assessment Board.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for direct entry 4 year route

Current employment as a healthcare assistant with a provider registered for the Degree Nurse Apprenticeship with 呻吟之王

Interview: Yes – All applicants are required to be successful at interview. Interviews are values based, individual interviews which will be conducted virtually. However, candidates can request a face to face interview if required.

Occupational Health check: Yes - All applicants must complete a satisfactory health screening.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check: Yes

English language requirements

If English is not the students’ first language an International English Language Test System (IELTS) overall score of at least 7 (a minimum of 6.5 in the writing section and minimum of 7 in the reading, listening and speaking sections) is required.

Entry requirements for 2 year progression route

Current registration with the NMC as a Registered Nursing Associate

Plus GCSEs at grade C/4 or above Maths and English. Passes in Functional Skills and Key Skills qualifications at level 2 in maths and English can be accepted as equivalents.

Applicants will usually have undertaken study within the last 5 years
