FTSE 100 companies give glowing commendations to ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ graduates


It’s not only the lecturers who have been impressed with the talented students at Leicester Business School – senior managers at FTSE 100 companies have been too.

Bosses from Walt Disney, British Telecom, Cadbury’s, Heathrow Airport, Hilton Hotels and Volkswagen were among those queuing up to give glowing commendations in this summer’s prize giving ceremony to reward the Class of 2016’s hardest-working students.

Students from Leicester Business School’s Department of , the Department of Politics and Public Policy, Department of and Department of collected awards in front of family and friends.

George Hedley, who collected a hat-trick of awards, is joining BT’s graduate programme as a marketing manager in September. “I’m over the moon. ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ’s given me so many different skills and my placement with Volkswagen gave me so much commercial experience.”

Rebecca Lys will be organising training and development for staff at Walt Disney after wowing bosses during her placement there.  Rebecca, who graduated in Human Resource Management, said: “They let you have a lot of responsibility which although it was hard work, showed they had confidence in your ability. I’ll be working to help support management training and I can’t wait to start.”

Paisley Torevell, who collected two marketing awards, is now working with Cadbury’s after being headhunted following a placement, “I started three weeks ago, it’s fantastic.”

David Orton, Senior Associate Head of Strategic Management and Marketing, led the first of Friday’s two awards ceremonies, telling graduates: “This is a special celebration for the crème de la crème of this year’s graduates. It celebrates your achievements and dedication to your work and incredible intellect. We are very proud of you all.”

Paul Angus of accounting firm MGC Hayles was on hand to present the prize for the best financial accounting assignment.

This is the 12th year that the Leicester company has been sponsoring the prize. Students have to present the findings of a financial accounting report to the partners and staff of MGC Hayles Leicester.

This year the prize went to Liban Abdi, Zaiba Afzal, Omar Aswat and Rubina Pala. Their work was praised by principal lecturer Dr Peter Scott as “thoroughly professional.”

Mr Angus said: “Over the years we have recruited six staff from the ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ students who have given presentations to us. We are always pleased to be here to present the prize and reward the winners, it is a difficult job to choose the winning group.”

Omar was part of the winning team, who scored 96% in the assignment. He said: “We did work hard but we didn’t expect 96%, especially from Mr Scott who is a strict marker! It’s a team effort though, everyone worked so well together.”

Kajal Premchande, who won the award for most improved third year student, said: “I didn’t expect it at all, I only found out when I was sent an email inviting me to get this prize! I’ve put in lots of hours in the library and I have actually really enjoyed the course.”
